Erich von Stroheim. A Jew from Vienna becomes the master director of the silent film era in Hollywood. In the US he reinvents himself, the title ’von’ makes him an aristocrat, the uniform fetish makes him a Prussian officer.

The film traces the fantasies of this Münchhausen of the film history and searches for the thread of truth in this fabulously woven myth.
